THIS SHABBAT  We celebrate the Bat Mitzvah of Maytal Merhav!

MAZEL TOV to Tamir and Galia Merhav on their daughter’s Bat Mitzvah! In honor of Maytal's Bat Mitzvah, the Merhav family invites the entire congregation to a kiddush luncheon following services.

CONDOLENCES  The entire congregation extends their sympathy to Alan Berman on the loss of his mother, Geraldine Berman.

OUR TORAHS ARE IN NEED OF REPAIR!  Recently three expert scribes visited Beth Ahm and determined that our Torah scrolls need to be repaired.  Please donate to help fix the everlasting symbols of the Jewish people!  Check the summer Shofar, the display in the foyer, or call the office for more information. 

JOIN THE TORAH READERS' CLUB!  Students in 6th - 12th grades can sign up to read Torah on Shabbat and holiday mornings.  Earn scholarships good towardJewish youth activities, conventions, Israel trips, and the like!  Want to join?  E-mail Rabbi Pont, mpont@templebethahm.org, for all details.

CREATIVE CRAFTS PEOPLE NEEDED  It is time to make new belts (chevel or chagirah) for our torahs.  Looking for creative people who can bargell, macrame, crochet, sew, make belt buckles/clasps, beading, or cross stich. This is a one-time project. There will be a planning meeting in May or early June. Please call Bettyann Honig if you are interested, 732-566-8918.

MORNING WEEKDAY SERVICES Morning services will now take place every weekday.  We thank Eli's on Route 34 for providing the bagels free of charge!  Rabbi Pont approves Eli's uncut bagels as kosher.  Weekday evening services are at 8:15 pm, Monday - Thursday.  Come to minyan to enjoy quiet time, pleasant melodies, and good company.  And do it because it's a mitzvah!

IN THE JEWISH COMMUNITY…

TUESDAY EVENING, JULY 29 - Israeli hero Steve Averbach will speak at a community wide event held at Marlboro Jewish Center. Years ago Steve foiled a homicide bomber but was paralyzed in the process. Young and old alike should hear his courageous story. Details to follow. 

 

REACHING OUT TO SURVIVORS  The Center for Holocaust Studies will observe it’s 30th anniversary in the spring of 2009 with a series of events. At the heart will be a tribute to the Holocaust survivors in the community. If you are a survivor of the Holocaust or know someone that is, living in Monmouth or Ocean county, please get in touch with the Center so that everyone can be included. Center number is 732-224-2769.

PLEASE REMEMBER and help make a difference for Gilad Shalit, Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev, the three Israeli soldiers held captive for more than a year. Send a letter to Ban Ki-Moon, UN Secretary General. Tell him you’re concerned about the captives and ask for his help enforcing UN resolution 1701, passed in 2006, which calls for “the unconditional release of the abducted Israeli soldiers.”  Send it to: The Honorable Ban Ki-Moon, Secretary General of the United Nations, 760 United Nations Plaza, New York, NY 10017. HELP SDEROT! Since 2000, the residents of Sderot have been under attack from Hamas rockets. The people of Sderot need our help. The Monmouth Federation is supporting the victims in Sderot through its Israel Emergency Campaign. JEWISH FAMILY SERVICES offers a bi-weekly support group for adult children of aging parents. It cost $6.00 per session and it is held at 7:00 PM on Mondays in  Kilmer Plaza, Union Hill Rd., Marlboro. It is a small, intimate groups that shares information, problems and concerns about elderly parents. For more information call Amy Dorfman, 732-536-0050.
