About Rabbi Michael Pont

Shalom! Temple Beth Ahm is a warm, family oriented synagogue, and I am honored and thrilled to be its rabbi. I grew up in Southfield Michigan near Detroit. My family and I belonged to a large Conservative synagogue, and I was very active in United Synagogue Youth. I attended the University of Michigan, and graduated in 1991 with a degree in Psychology. I was accepted to the Jewish Theological Seminary's Rabbinical School in 1993, and after six years of study in Los Angeles, New York, and Israel, I was ordained in 1999.

After serving as the Assistant Rabbi at Beth David Synagogue in Greensboro, North Carolina for five years, I decided that I wanted to lead my own congregation. I began to search for a community with which I share values: a love of Jewish life and learning, and the desire to share that love with everyone, from young children to seniors.

If you are looking for such a spiritual home, Temple Beth Ahm is the right place! You can feel the energy here during services, classes, and programs - it is truly uplifting. Furthermore, our congregation is volunteer driven. There are over twenty committees on which dedicated members serve, lending their talents to the betterment of our community and of the Jewish people.

As the rabbi, I work hard for the benefit of each and every member of the Temple. I bring my passion for Judaism to the community, and I am excited to work together toward common goals for the congregation. If you would like to know more about us, please feel free to contact me at (732) 583-1700, or via e-mail: mpont@templebethahm.org.

About Cantor Melissa Berman

We are pleased and excited to have Cantor Melissa Berman as part of the Temple Beth Ahm family. Cantor Berman leads services on Shabbat weekends when there is a Bar/Bat Mitzvah and on other selected dates.

Ms. Berman is a graduate of Duke University where she graduated Cum Laude. She received a B.A. as a music major. During that time, she served as Religious Education Vice President for Hillel and regularly led services on Shabbat. She has served as a counselor for USY on Wheels and then returned to Duke University to serve as High Holiday Hazzan. Melissa spent a year at the Conservative Yeshiva (Fuchsberg Center) in Jerusalem and is currently a fourth year student at the Cantorial School of The Jewish Theological Seminary. She has performed as a Guest Soloist at Temple Beth Ahm as well as Congregation Beth-El in New London, CT and Temple Israel of Great Neck. She has also appeared numerous operas and theatrical productions. She is instrumental in making our newest "young adults" feel secure and comfortable on their special day when they implement the training they have received by Cantor Ron Sucher.
