Letter from the Board

Welcome to Aberdeen USY! USY is a group for Jewish teens to socialize and connect with each other. Our mission includes connecting with our Jewish roots and performing Tikun Olam, repairing the world. We are a chapter in the Hagalil Region, covering central and northern New Jersey, This year we are planning a fantizzletastic calendar of events.

On this page you will find a plethora of information relating to the exciting upcoming events in our chapter. Additionally, you can read our lovely biographies, view potos, print an application, and contact us and our adviser.

B’Yedidut (In friendship),
The 2013-2014 AUSY Chapter Board

Letter from the Advisor

Hello Aberdeen! My name is Mara Herling and I am thrilled to be your USY advisor this year! I was a member of USY for all four years of my high school career and have been a regional staff member for the past five years. When I am not participating in USY related-activities, I teach 7th  grade mathematics at a local middle school. As much as I love teaching, I adore USY even more! Other things that interest me include Zumba, penguins, and anything purple. I am looking forward to a fun-filled year of Judaism, learning, socializing, friend making, memories, and success.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me by email (mara@templebethahm.org).

Kol Tuv,
Mara Herling
AUSY Chapter Advisor 2013-2014

AUSY President
Shalom! My name is Hannah and I am the 2013-2014 Aberdeen USY President. I am so excited for this year and I just know it will be fabulous! I am a senior at Freehold High School, where I am in a culinary program. I love baking, eating food, reading (John Green), the beach, stickers, and anything salted caramel. Other than that, I cannot believe how fast the past 3 years in USY have gone and cannot wait to make my last year amazing. I hope you join me and our wonderful board at all of our events! Please feel free to contact me or come up and talk :) Hope to see you around this year!

AUSY Israel Awareness and Executive Committees VP
Hey Aberdeen! My name is Holly and I am the Aberdeen USY's Israel Awareness and Executive Committees Vice President! I am a senior at the Academy of Allied Health and Science in hopes of one day becoming a doctor of some sort. Just a few fun facts: my favorite color is green, I really like listening to music, and I think giraffes are pretty neat. Also, I love USY very much and I'm extremely happy to be on the Aberdeen chapter board this year! This is my second time serving the Aberdeen chapter as Israel Awareness/Executive Committees VP. I am very passionate about Israel and I could not be more excited to share my passion with our chapter! I know this is going to be a great year!

Religion Education VP
Hello! My name is Serena and I am Aberdeen USY's 2013-2014 Religion Education Vice President. I have attended Solomon Schechter Day School of Greater Monmouth County for 10 years, pre-k to eighth grade. Now, I am currently a sophomore in a Biomedical Academy at Matawan Aberdeen Regional High School. I have been involved with dancing for several years now and I take many different kinds of styles. I also play softball for my high school team in the spring. I am involved in Interact Club, which is volunteer work and the Future Medical Leaders of America Club where we compete in various science related competitions.

SOCIAL ACTION/TIKUN OLAM (SA/TO) VP
Shalom AUSY! I'm Emily, your 2013-2014 Social Action / Tikkun Olam VIce President! I like to sing in the choir at school, volunteer with Friendship Circle, and, most importantly, attend and plan USY events! This year is going to be LEGENDARY! I'm going to get our chapter as SA/TO-tastic as possible! Winston Churchill once said, "We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give." I could not agree more. This year we are going to have fun and give back! If you have any questions or suggestions, do not hesitate to come to me!

COMMUNICATIONS VP
Hi, I am Robert and I am excited to be your 2013-2014 Communications VP!  Before USY, I was an active member of Kadima, and before that Kadima Katan.  I have been actively involved in our chapter of USY since my freshman year and have enjoyed every minute of it!  I have represented our chapter at every encampment since the summer before 6th grade and last winter I was able to represent our chapter at International Convention in Boston.  Aside from USY, I am entering my senior year in the Medical Science program at Freehold High School.  Some other activities I am involved in are playing guitar, doing martial arts, attending Hebrew High School at Temple Beth Ahm, and volunteering my time with special needs children and teens.  I am looking forward to an awesome year!

MEDIA AND CORRESPONDENCE VP
Hi my name is Jacqueline and I am your 2013-2014 Media and Correspondence Vice President. I am a junior in high school, and work hard for my grades. I participate in extracurricular activities, which includes performing community service. I love to hang out with my friends when I have free time. I can't wait for this year because I know it's going to be a good time, so get pumped up for USY and come join our events! See you there!
