USY

Aberdeen USY (AUSY), our youth group for high school students, meets twice a month on Sunday evenings. AUSY is a self-governing group that elects an executive board every spring. The AUSY Board and USY advisor, Rebecca, work together to plan and develop social, educational, recreational, and religious programs for its members.

AUSY strives to make the world a better place by helping out in the synagogue, undertaking social action initiatives, and organizing fundraisers for the International USY charity, Tikun Olam.  AUSY members actively participate in Hagalil USY regional events including dances, kinnusim (Shabbat weekend conventions), and Hagalil USY Encampment. Members also attend international USY programs such as USY International Convention, USY on Wheels, and USY Israel Pilgrimage. AUSY has been recognized by the Hagalil region for increased membership and per capita contribution to Tikun Olam, and has received regional awards including “Most Improved Chapter”, and “Chapter of Excellence”.

The Temple Beth Ahm Youth Commission oversees the planning and execution of USY programming. For further information about youth activities, contact Maurie Backman, Temple Beth Ahm Youth Commission Chair, at TBAYOUTHCOMMISSION@TEMPLEBETHAHM.ORG

Hi! I’m Daniela, and I’m the Religion Education Vice President for Aberdeen USY. I love to read, sing, and dance, among other things. I’ve been in USY for 4 years, and went on Wheels in 2018. I’m looking forward to a great year with AUSY!

Ben Schornstein: Social Action/Tikun Olam Vice President

Hello AUSY! My name is Benjamin Schornstein, and I am a senior at Freehold Township High School. I am your 2019-2020 SA/TO Vice president, and this is my fourth year in the organization. Over the years in TSA, I have attended chapter and regional events, and helped plan and run many events. Outside of AUSY, I am involved in clubs like STEM for Students, DECA, Mu Alpha Theta, Film Club, Science League, and Technology Student Association. USY has changed who I am today because I had the opportunity to work with my friends in the Jewish community and I have gained a greater appreciation and passion for Israel and the Jewish people. I am looking forward to another great year in AUSY!

Melissa Neglio: Membership and Programming Vice President

Hi, I’m Melissa Neglio and I am your 2019-2020 Membership and Programming Vice President! I am a sophomore at Old Bridge high school. I love to swim, random dance parties, corny jokes and USY. I can’t wait for an amazing year with you. #ausyawesome

Josh Weiss: Freshman Representative

My name is Josh Weiss. I've been a member of TBA since I was born. I live in Marlboro and I am a freshman at Colts Neck High School. I love Minecraft and robotics. I am currently working towards my black belt at Monmouth Karate Academy. In my spare time, I like to build computers from scratch. I also love taking things apart to understand how they work. I look forward to planning fun and exciting events as your new AUSY freshman representative for the 2019-2020 year.

USY Advisor: Rebecca Glinn

Shalom Temple Beth Ahm! My name is Rebecca Glinn and I am excited and honored to be the new advisor for the Aberdeen USY chapter. I will be engaging with our community’s youth while working towards a Master of Public Policy at Rutgers University. Four years ago I was an active USYer for the Metuchen chapter, serving on chapter board for two years and on Regional Executive Board my senior year as Israel Awareness Vice President. These experiences have not only enhanced my high school career but have set me up for success as an undergraduate student at the University of Delaware. Most importantly, I’ve made connections with people that are still my very best friends to this day. Some fun things about me, I love to read and watch The Office, and have a HUGE fear of seagulls! Come meet me, and your new best friends at Aberdeen USY!
